Frequently Asked Questions

Before “Assuming,” try the Crazy Method of “Asking.”

For Prospective Clients

My business is located in México, can you work with me?
Yes and No. I am happy to work with you, though there are a few things you’ll need to understand in advance:

  • At this time, I cannot receive payment in Méxican pesos – electronically, in person, or otherwise. You can pay via Visa, Mastercard, or American Express through the online accounting system I use, Freshbooks. Otherwise, please contact to see if we can set up other payment arrangements.
  • English is my first language, and I am learning to speak proficiently in Spanish. At this time, I am unable to write, read, or speak proficiently in Spanish. Therefore, you can easily translate the content of the grammar into Spanish with a translator.

If you need additional assistance, I may have a contact here in México who can help. Please send me a message, to see if I can help you. You can also visit maestrohuh.com as an example of a site I’ve created in both Spanish and English.

My business is outside the United States, can you work with me?

Yes and No. I can work anywhere and accept clients from anywhere in the world. But, please note, my first language is English, and I am just starting to learn Spanish. I am comfortable creating multi-language WordPress-powered websites. But as the client, you would be responsible for providing ALL language translations.

Furthermore, there may be additional fees assessed in the project agreement for building a non-Englished based website. Finally, to work with me, you must be able to pay the invoices via Visa, Mastercard through my accounting system, Freshbooks. You’ll need to contact me directly for other payment arrangements such as PayPal.

My business is in the United States, and you live in Mexico. Are you available by phone?
Yes. I have a local cell phone number here in Mexico that I can call to the United States at any time. Please note: if I contact you from my México number it will include the country code +52 and will strangely say the call is coming from Iran. I have no clue why, but I promise you it is me and I am in México. Otherwise, my United States cell phone number is still active and connected to a Google Voice account which I have access to on my phone or computer.

For Existing Clients: You can still call my United States cell phone number to leave a voicemail. Or, you can send me a text message at that number as well. I’ll usually receive the message immediately and respond as soon as possible. Note: I don’t always carry my phone with me, so be sure to leave a detailed message, and I’ll get back to as quickly as possible.

For Prospective Clients: Because I charge for my consultation time and because I live in México, I no longer give out my cell phone number(s) to prospective clients. My consultations are provided via Google Hangouts, and I will set up the video call after your consultation has been scheduled.

Please feel free to contact me. I will respond as soon as possible.

I am a solo entrepreneur and/or small business, will you work with me?

The short answer is: Yes! These are the clients I am most inspired to work with, especially if their work makes a positive impact in the world.

If you want to work with me, it’s because you value partnering with an expert to guide you through the creative process of creating, designing, and building a professional WordPress-powered website and developing a sustainable digital marketing strategy and online presence for the long-term growth of your business.

Please understand – I know you have many options available to you, including free solutions such as Wix and Squarespace – I am not the cheap solution. But, I am a flexible business owner. I may work with you if your project is something I will enjoy working on.

Finally, if you’re not genuinely invested in partnering with someone for the success of your online presence who values quality, attention to detail, and commitment to helping you achieve your goals… Simply put, we are not a match.

If you’d like to partner with me on your project, contact me.

What all do I need to get started to work with you?
Contact me. If we decide we are a good match and want to partner together on your creative project, the next step is for me to send you an estimate, project agreement, project timeline, and invoice for deposit.

After I have received your electronically signed project agreement and paid deposit, we can begin working on your project. If I am building a WordPress website for you, I will create a private and secure Google document where you’ll need to include administrative access to your registrar account for your domain name.

If you’ve signed up for your own hosting account with WPEngine, I’ll give you further information for adding me as an admin to WPEngine account at that time. I’ll take care of the technical setup for you of connecting your domain name to the DNS management system (CloudFlare), your WPEngine hosting account, Google Analytics, and Google Search console.

Finally, if you already have brand assets such as images, content, brand guidelines, logo files, or other media, you’ll need to provide them to me either via DropBox, Google Cloud, or some other cloud-based online service for me to download.

What WordPress website hosting company do you use?
WPEngine. I work exclusively with clients who’s WordPress-powered website is hosted through WPEngine. I only use WPEngine, with no exceptions. Your site must be hosted on WPEngine to work with me.

Why? Because I have a lot of experience with the time-intensive and high-cost associated with WordPress “un-hacking” and repair. I take WordPress website security and performance optimization very seriously. Furthermore, because of WPEngines’ excellent customer service, easy-to-use infrastructure, and built-in features such as daily backups, content delivery network (CDN), and free SSL certification, they are a very affordable, premium solution for my business and my clients.

Why do you use the drag-and-drop Divi Builder Theme?
The industry for designing and building professional websites has changed dramatically over the last few years, and I have had to learn, adapt and grow. I understand, as a consumer, you have many options available to you – including free solutions such as Wix, Squarespace, or even just having a social media presence like a Facebook page.

To provide an affordable solution to my customers, I have eliminated most custom WordPress theme web development and coding from my business to keep time and labor costs down and pass the savings on to my customers.

Other a few common CSS tweaks I usually need to make to ensure graceful, mobile-ready, responsiveness on smartphones and tablets, the developers at Elegant Themes have done a fantastic job creating a theme that is flexible for most kinds of WordPress websites.

For Existing Clients

Jason, what are you scheduled business hours?
I currently live in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Which means I am basically on Eastern Standard Time for the United States. I am usually available for client work between 12 pm EST (9 am PST) and 6 pm EST (3 pm PST), Monday through Friday with a hour siesta somewhere in the middle.
When I submit a work request, when will it get completed?
For Non-Emergency Tasks: Work requests received between 9 am PST and 3 pm PST (12 pm EST and 6 pm EST) will be acknowledged, and effort will be made to complete the task within 24 – 48 business hours. Work requests received after 3 pm PST (6pm EST), will be acknowledged the next business day with an effort made to complete the task within 24 – 48 business hours. Requests sent after 3 pm PST on Friday and before 9 am PST Monday (i.e., the weekend) will be acknowledged on the following business day (Monday) and an effort to complete the task within 24 to 48 hours. If something is unclear, I will respond via email with any questions.

For Emergency Tasks ONLY: Emergency tasks are, for example, f the website is completely going down, is non-responsive, or an issue with online ordering system. In the event of an emergency during the transition, feel free to call or email any time. If I’m able to respond immediately, I will do my best.

Follow Up: If you’re an existing client, and I have additional questions, I will follow up as soon as possible via email, phone, FaceTime, Skype, or Google Voice.

Jason, are you available to work on the weekends?

The short answer is: No. Saturdays are usually my partner’s day off and we are probably out running errand or having a fun day. So I am rarely at my computer then. Sundays are usually my day for “me time” for rejuvenating, relaxing, working on other creative projects around the house, or out exploring the Riviera Maya, the Yucatan, or just enjoying Playa del Carmen.

Requests sent after 6 pm EST (3 pm PST) on Friday and before 12 pm EST (9 am PST) Monday (i.e., the weekend) will be acknowledged on the following business day (Monday) and an effort to complete the task within 24 to 48 hours. If something is unclear, I will respond via email with any questions. If you are an existing client and have an urgent need, please contact me directly via email.

I am an existing client, how can I pay my invoice?

I use Freshbooks for my online accounting and time management software. Once a client receives their first estimate or invoice from me, they’ll receive an email to login to Freshbooks and create their own account. Then, they can pay their invoices via credit card through Stripe. Stripe accepts most major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Unfortunately, Freshbooks does not accept PayPal as a payment option at this time. If you’d like to pay via PayPal or make other payment arrangements, please send me a message.

What are your billing terms?
I usually send out all invoices on the 15th and last day of each month. When invoices are sent, they are net due on the day the invoice is sent. The online accounting system I use, Freshbooks, has been set up so that you’ll receive a reminder 3 days before the invoice is past due 15 days. After the 15th day, the accounting system will automatically add a 2% late fee.
Can you travel for work to my location? And, do you charge a per diem?
Yes. My per diem rate is US$95/day for ALL travel days. Any expenses exclusive of general overhead are not included in this agreement and will be invoiced separately. Examples of such costs include delivery services, long-distance telephone calls, travel beyond 25 miles from Client facilities, and meals when traveling. Per diem charges are invoiced in advance, upon approval, are due immediately, and are non-refundable.
Can you help me with my project after my WordPress website goes live?
Yes. I can provide on-going, post-launch support, for most of your creative direction, brand strategy, digital marketing, website design, and graphic design needs. My client project agreements are set up as “master service agreements.” This means, after the launch of my client’s WordPress website, I am able to provide ongoing support on a per need basis.

I track my time and labor by the hour and each task beyond the scope of the initial agreement is considered out-of-scope of the initial project agreement and therefore is estimated separately. An estimate for the work will be sent in advance from the online accounting system, Freshbooks, and because clients already have a master service agreement with me, they just need to approve the estimate in Freshbooks for me to get started on the task.

Where can I find training videos to manage my WordPress website?

If you are an existing client of mine, you may already have a saved training video from our Google Hangout saved in your client folder on my Google Drive account. As well, Elegant Themes now builds video-based training videos directly into the Divi Builder. Existing clients, please send me a message if you have questions or for more information.

Do you offer a commission for referrals?
Yes! If you refer a prospective client to me, we agree to work together, and they have returned their signed project agreement and paid the deposit to me, I’ll send you $200 as soon as the deposit is transferred to my bank account. A small token of appreciation to say, “thank you!”
