Finding Your Memorable Brand Name Online

06/9/2018 | Blogging & Design

To get started, the first thing we have to do is come up with a memorable brand name. Once you’ve thought through who your audience is, you have a clear picture of your product or services, and an understanding of your industry, the first step to establishing a sustainable online presence is to have a good brand name.

Use the Google Keyword Tool to Find a Brand Name

One way to come up with a brand name is to use the Google Keyword tool to help brainstorm and generate your ideas. Remember your name should be easy to read, easy to write, and easy to remember.

You want something that’s going to be consistent with a domain name username and a hashtag. So that way, your users can easily remember and find you anywhere online.

For this project, I have a reasonably good idea. This project I want to call “WebDezen.” Kind of like web design, but zen.

In the Google Keyword Tool, I might just put those three words and see what comes up. Web design is a relatively popular search term, in and of itself. Now that I’ve come up with sort of a combination of the words that I want to use the domain name.

What I’ve come up with is webdezen.com.

Search for a Brand Username on Social Media

What I want to do is now go over to social media and see if it’s available as a username.

I’ll start with Twitter. Just type it in the browser search bar as the URL with the username (i.e., http://twitter.com/webdezen) and see if it’s available. If I get a page not found, that tells me there is no username.

So now I can go over to Instagram, and I do the same thing there. If I see that the page is not available, I know it’s available there as well.

Next, I’ll head over to Pinterest, and I will do the same thing.

Finally, I’ll also check on Facebook. I get a “page not found” as well. So that’s a good sign that the username is available everywhere

Search Hashtagify.Me for the Brand Name Hashtag

The last thing I want to do is check to see how popular or if it’s even being used as a hashtag. The way I do that is I go to a site called hashtagify.me.
I’ll just do a search for my term. If I get an “oops no data found,” that tells me that no one’s using the hashtag.

Use NameCheap to Register the Domain Brand Name

So now I’ve got a domain name, a username, and a hashtag that’s available everywhere the next thing is I’m going to go to Namecheap and see if the domain name is available.

After searching in NameCheap, it appears I’m in luck! The domain name webdezen.com is available. So I’m going to go ahead and go through the checkout process to purchase my new domain name.

Conclusion

Now we have a memorable brand name that is easy to read, easy to write, and easy to remember. We used the Google Keyword Tool, Social Media, and Hashtagify. Me to find a consistent name as the username, hashtag. Finally, we used NameCheap to register the domain brand name.
